Blücher Battery in Ustka - bunkers you won't see in any other resort

German coastal fortifications from World War II hidden in the forest west of Ustka. Learn about their history, what to see, and how to plan your visit.

Most seaside resorts are associated with a beach and a pier. Ustka has something more— the Blücher Battery , remnants of massive German coastal fortifications from World War II, hidden in the forest just outside the town.

What was the Blücher Battery?

This complex of coastal artillery positions was constructed by the Germans near Ustka to control and defend this section of the Baltic coast. The complex included gun emplacements, ammunition bunkers, crew shelters, and supporting infrastructure, partially concealed in the forest.

What can you see today

Concrete bunkers and positions remain to this day, accessible for walkers and impressive in scale. Some of the structures are open to visitors as a military trail/open-air museum—an attraction that will be of particular interest to history and fortification enthusiasts, as well as families looking for something other than the beach.

How to plan your visit

  • Location: seaside forest west of Ustka - reachable on foot, by bike or by car.
  • What to bring: comfortable shoes (forest paths are sometimes muddy) and a flashlight if you want to look inside.
  • Time: For a leisurely visit, allow 1.5–2 hours; this can be combined with a walk along the seafront.
  • Tip: check the current availability and any tickets before your visit – the offer may be seasonal.

The Blücher Battery perfectly complements a "classic" weekend in Ustka - after a morning at the beach, it gives a completely different, historical perspective on this place.
